NBPA opens new PLYRS UNTD training facility for NBA players in Los Angeles

The NBPA opened a new training facility in Los Angeles. The PLYRS UNTD performance center is in Playa Vista. It offers a one-stop shop for player workouts.

Twenty-five NBA players attended the first official run. The facility includes regulation courts and a weight room. Recovery options include saunas and cold tubs.

Executive Director David Kelly leads the union's new direction. Fred VanVleet is the new board president. The group has many ideas for the future.

The facility is open only to NBA players. It is available 24 hours a day. The goal is to meet players where they live and train.

Player Response and Features

"The response has been phenomenal," said David Kelly. About 80 players visited in the first week. They came for workouts and recovery sessions.

The union asked players what they wanted. They added a turf area with weighted sleds. The facility continues to evolve based on feedback.

Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III praised the center. He called it a complete workout destination. Players do not need to go anywhere else.

"It's like iron sharpening iron," Murphy said. He had one of his best workouts there. The presence of other players pushes everyone to compete.

Future CBA Negotiations

The union is already looking ahead to the next CBA. The current agreement runs through 2030. An opt-out clause exists in October 2028.

Kelly is not a fan of the second tax apron. He said it decimates teams and forces non-basketball decisions. The union will fight back more unified next time.

Murphy brings a unique perspective to the board. He has played every role in his career. He speaks for all 450 players, not just the stars.

The focus remains on the new facility for now. It will be busy through the summer. Training camps start in a few weeks.
