Coventry City Pursue Mudryk Loan Deal From Chelsea

Coventry City are plotting a move to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on loan. The club just returned to the Premier League. Frank Lampard is determined to strengthen his squad before the new season.

Mudryk is likely to leave Chelsea after his doping ban was cleared by the FA. He has not played a competitive game since December 2024. The 25-year-old worked with Lampard previously at Chelsea.

Former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea want Mudryk to play regular football. A move to a Premier League club is seen as ideal. Lampard could use his links to Chelsea to beat rivals to a deal.

Multiple clubs across Europe are on high alert due to Mudryk's availability. Lampard insisted during his time at Chelsea that Mudryk would be a great player. The winger still has a way to go to develop his game.

Lampard's Chelsea Connection Key To Deal

Brown told Football Insider in April that Lampard plans to use his Chelsea connections. He wants to bolster his Coventry squad ahead of their Premier League return. Mudryk emerged as the latest Chelsea talent linked with the Sky Blues.

The opportunity for a season-long loan deal is now something Coventry want to explore. There is no doubting the winger's talent despite concerns about his fitness. A move could be on the cards for the Ukrainian.

"Coventry could definitely be a destination for Mudryk," Brown told Football Insider. "It's something that would make a lot of sense because Coventry want to strengthen. Chelsea want to send Mudryk on loan and Lampard has connections."

"He worked with him before at Chelsea so he knows everything about him. He knows how he works in training and responds to coaches. He knows his best role and all of that sort of thing," said Brown.

Fitness Concerns Surround Mudryk Move

Brown stated that from Coventry's point of view the move is ideal. Mudryk would get the opportunity to play under a manager he knows. The only concern for Brown is about the winger's fitness.

He has been out of the game for two years due to his ban. The question is how quickly he will be ready to play regular minutes. Coventry need quality players to help them right from the start of the season.

"Not ten games in when they finally get up to full fitness," Brown added. "That is a decision for Lampard and the recruitment team. If they believe it is worth the gamble then I can see this one being done."

Mudryk was serving a four-year ban for breaching anti-doping rules. The ban was overturned following a surprise appeal. Chelsea now face a decision about his long-term future.

Brown told Football Insider on 3 August that Chelsea plan to send Mudryk on loan. They will evaluate his progress when he returns to Stamford Bridge. He is not ready to impact Xabi Alonso's plans for the upcoming season.

A spell away from Chelsea is seen as his logical next step. The club still recognize he has the talent to succeed in the Premier League. Previous concerns about his consistency remain but his potential is clear.
